GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA review

GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA

GeekVape have developed a great reputation for quality products at budget prices over the past couple of years, with notable releases such as the Tsunami, Griffin and Athena.

One of the latest GeekVape products is the Ammit MTL RDA, which as the name suggests, is a rebuildable dripping atomiser geared towards mouth to lung vapers. This follows on from the popular Ammit RTA, so let’s see how the Ammit MTL RDA stacks up!

Design and Build Quality

The GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA is a 22mm width RDA, which also measures in at a relatively short 38.3mm in height, from the 510 pin to the stock drip tip.

Six colour options are available to purchase, with stainless steel, gold, blue, rainbow, black, gunmetal and violet finishes.

Instantly recognisable on the top cap is the GeekVape logo, and the top cap itself features a dual-layer chamber structure which is designed to dissipate heat effectively. 510 drip tips are compatible with the GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA, and you get a 2mm and 3mm bore drip tips included in the box.

At the base of the GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA is a gold plated 510 connector, which can be easily swapped out for a bottom feed pin if you wish to use this RDA with a squonker, and a bottom feed pin is found in the spares bag.

All in all I didn’t have any complaints about the build quality of the GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA, and it felt to me like a really well made piece of kit!

Building the GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA

A two post build deck is found on the GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA, designed for single coil builds. Large post holes are present on the build deck, which makes it easy to insert your coil legs into.

Two pre made Clapton coils are included in the spares, which are easy to install and have a resistance of 0.7ohm each. A deep juice well is present too, which holds plenty of E-Liquid.

Airflow

GeekVape have designed a ‘3D Airflow System’ for the Ammit MTL RDA, which entails the airflow travelling in through the the top of the RDA and coming out at the base, to hit the coil.

Twelve different airflow settings are possible on the Ammit MTL RDA, you can have all five airflow holes open at its widest airflow setting, or reduce the airflow down to a single individual airflow hole.

Performance

I was quite surprised that the included pre-made Clapton coil had a resistance of 0.7ohm, as this is a little on the low side for mouth to lung vaping, well certainly for my style of MTL anyway!

GeekVape recommend that a wattage range of 15-20W should be used, ideally you want to be using this RDA on a regulated device if you are using the included Clapton coil.

I found that with the airflow fully open, or even with four airflow slots open, the draw was a little on the airy side for a MTL hit, it was more of a restricted lung draw. However, with three airflow slots or less open, you can mouth to lung hit this RDA, and get a very tight MTL draw with just a single airflow hole open.

Flavour-wise, the results I was getting from this RDA were pretty impressive, I have been vaping the Manabush FireWater range with 20mg nicotine strength in this RDA, and getting enjoyable flavour at the 15-17.5W range.

Impressively, I never experienced a single leak from this RDA, which is down to the deep juice well and top airflow system. For that reason it’s great to use on a regulated squonker!

Conclusion

The GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA is a great budget option to look at if you are after a squonk capable RDA that has a restricted draw. For the price, it boasts great build quality and performance, and offers true MTL vaping options!

Freemax Scylla Build Quality & Design

The Freemax Scylla is manufactured from food grade stainless steel and Pyrex glass, with the coils themselves manufactured from food grade ceramic for the cleanest possible flavor. Looks wise it’s a real nice and sleek looking tank, and the 22mm diameter means it sits flush.Freeman Scylla Review

Top Fill

Freeman Scylla ReviewThe Scylla is top filled and it’s quick and easy to do so, simply twist the top cap counter clockwise and lift it off to expose the fill ports. Make sure you twist it clockwise once you have done so to lock it back in and prevent leaks!

On the top cap the removable drip tip is present, which has a stainless steel outer and delrin inner to protect against heat.

At the base of the tank is the massive dual adjustable cyclops airflow, possibly the biggest airflow you will ever see!

Coil Replacement

To replace a coil you will need to unscrew the tank from the base, with no e liquid in the tank to guard against leaks.

Build quality overall is really solid and the tank can be disassembled to clean, which is a bonus.

How Does The Scylla Perform?

0.3Ohm Ceramic Coil

Pre installed with the Scylla is the new 0.3ohm ceramic coil, designed to be run from 20w to an extraordinary 160w! Coil lifespan is increased over traditional kanthal coils as well, with the lifespan quoted at three times longer.

The excellent feature of this coil is that even when I run it over 100w, the vapor stayed smooth and not as hot a vape as what I would expect it to be. You need to push some serious power through this coil, as I found it didn’t even really get going until around 60w, and my preferred spot was 80-90w.

The flavor and vapor are truly outstanding though, a cut above many other tanks out there in a crowded marketplace.

RBA Deck

Freeman Scylla ReviewThere’s also an RBA deck included which comes with a single coil build inside, you only need to wick it. It has a 0.5ohm build that doesn’t quite provide the same fireworks as the 0.3ohm ceramic coil does, however it still provides flavor and vapor that many other sub ohm tanks can’t compete with.

You can obviously put your own build and dual stacked vertical coil set ups are supported!

Airflow

Freemax also provide outstanding airflow with their tanks and the Scylla sports absolutely massive airflow, bigger than most tanks around, with two giant cyclops airflow slots on either side that have 8 different adjustable airflow options.

Each option clicks into place smoothly and audibly and stays where it is. This is one of the best airflow control rings I’ve experienced yet.Freeman Scylla Review

Capacity is 4ml and this does get drained in no time at all!

This tank is seriously thirsty but when you consider that wattage this tank is designed for, that comes as no surprise.

What I Like

A hallmark for releases from Shenzhen Freemax is superb flavor and massive cloud production, and the Freemax Scylla is not only the best Freemax tank at providing both of these, but arguably the best sub ohm tank yet.

The included ceramic coil not only provides excellent flavor and vapor production, but the lifespan is superb and it also wicks e juice of any mix ratio incredibly quickly.

The ceramic coil can be run to a massive 160w which makes it the most powerful sub ohm tank to date! I like that the vape stays smooth and not harsh even at high wattage.

The airflow control ring is absolutely massive and works like a dream, there’s huge airflow options!

You can fully strip down the Freemax Scylla in order to clean it, and if you break the glass a spare is included with the kit. The build quality of this tank overall is excellent and up there with the best. It’s very robust.

Although it’s not perfect the top refill system has been refined further to make it more user friendly.

What I Dislike

One thing that did slightly annoy me about the Freemax Scylla was that if you closed the top cap after refilling and forgot to turn the cap slightly clockwise until you hear a click, you will find that your juice gets dumped out of your tank very quickly indeed!

You do need some serious power to get the best out of this tank if you use the ceramic coil. In my opinion things don’t really get going until around 60w, and you need to be pushing upwards of 80w to get the best from the ceramic coil, which isn’t going to be for everyone.

Also if you are vaping at high power, as this tank is intended, then the Freemax Scylla gets extremely hot, in some instances too hot to touch. Just be wary of this!

Final Freemax Scylla Review Verdict

If you vape at high power, then the Scylla is definitely the tank for you! This is one of the absolute best performers out there for high wattage sub ohm tanks, with arguably the best flavor yet from the included ceramic coils and absolutely gob smacking vapour production.

It does cater for those who don’t enjoy high power vaping, with the inclusion of the RBA coil which opens up a world of different possibilities. There are very few negatives with this tank but a whole load of positives.

This is the best sub ohm tank I’ve experienced , and one of the very best overall yet!

Vaporesso Switcher Review – Plate Swapping

Vaporesso fans will have another great reason to celebrate with the release of another potentially great kit. The Vaporesso Switcher kit comes bundled with their fabled NRG tank and fires up to a maximum power output of 220 watts with the help of two 18650 batteries (sold separately). Utilizing the same great OMNI board to make sure you get the most accurate vaping experience possible, the Vaporesso Switcher also supports swappable exterior plates for on-the-fly customization.

Review: Vaporesso Switcher

Vaporesso Switcher Review

Manufacturing Quality

It’s not difficult to figure out where the Vaporesso Switcher derives its name. A feature not often seen in other box mods of this caliber is the mods ability to allow for swappable exterior plates. Constructed out of quality zinc alloy, the Vaporesso Switcher feels immaculately premium and solid to the touch.
Swapping out plates is far from difficult as well; simply pop open the battery door located at the bottom of the mod, slide out the old plate, then just as easily slide in the new one. Lock everything together by closing the battery door and you’re done!
The Vaporesso Switcher is also the company’s first foray into the world of designing mods with customizable LEDs. One important thing to note is that the Vaporesso Switcher comes in two versions: the LE version that supports customizable lighting options and the standard version which doesn’t come with said lighting.
I think it’s great that Vapresso has gone with this route considering that while there are definitely many vapers who like the look of LEDs on their mod, there are just as many who prefer a more non-descript look in their mods. And while you can say that other LED mods have the option to simply turn off the lights, at the end of the day you’re just paying for a feature that you’ll never use so kudos to Vaporesso for giving users a choice.

Vaporesso Switcher available colors

The buttons used to access or navigate the functions of the Vaporesso doesn’t deviate much from the norm. In addition to the clicky firing and up/down buttons found on most box mods, the Vaporesso Switcher also makes use of a function/menu button which allows for easy changes from one vaping mode to another. All the buttons are well-placed and easy to access regardless of how you hold the device giving you a comfortable and stable grip when vaping with the device.
The top of the Vaporesso Switcher holds the massive 510 connection which is centered, allowing for greater compatibility with larger atomizers. The NRG tank sits comfortably flush on top of the mod without any unsightly gaps. Like most tanks, the NRG is constructed out of a combination of stainless steel, glass, and Delrin, striking the perfect balance between sturdiness and overall comfort.

Focus On www.ave40.com For More Vape Kits.

Flavor Quality

One of the Vaporesso Switcher’s strongest points is the bundled NRG tank that supports NRG coils. Not only do they output lots of flavor and vapor, but they’re also cross-compatible with most Smok coils (although I do find Vaporesso coils to be of slightly better quality overall). The coils bundled with the kit are the GT8 and GT4 coil heads.

The GT8 is a quad coil design meant for maximum vapor production with a low resistance of 0.15 ohms, so expect battery and e-liquid consumption to be higher in comparison to when using the GT4 which is a dual coil design rated at 0.15 ohms but with a bigger emphasis on flavor and just a tad less on vapor production.

The NRG tank has the benefit of having an extremely smooth airflow design thanks to the dual slot bottom airflow ring which is highly adjustable, letting you dial down the airflow to a restricted pull or opening it up all the way for a relaxed, open, and airy vape.

Power Flexibility

With the inclusion of Vaporesso’s signature OMNI board, their mods are now as versatile and powerful as ever. Now at version 2.6, the chip supports a slightly revised interface which makes use of on-screen buttons for even easier menu navigation.

The OMNI board also promises fast, convenient, and most importantly safe/balanced onboard charging of the dual 18650 batteries, a feature only seen in more expensive devices such as DNA or YiHi mods.

Naturally, the Vaporesso Switcher supports all the possible vaping modes such as variable wattage, temperature control, and customizable TCR settings. The pre-heat function is also standard as well as support for all the temperature control coils such as stainless steel, titanium, and nickel.

Power and temperature settings feel very accurate, so when you set the mod to vape at 50 watts, you’ll know that you’re going to be vaping at 50 watts, not 55 or 45.

Vaporesso Switcher double view

Ease of Use

While the vast plethora of options does give the Vaporesso Switcher a small learning curve when learning the ins and outs of the kit, operating the mod in standard variable wattage mode is far from difficult.

The 0.96 inch OLED display plays no small part in this thanks to its clear crisp display which effectively conveys all relevant information to you.

The on-screen graphical keys are also a big factor when it comes to the overall easier navigation of the relatively complex menu system that lets you customize practically every aspect of the mod’s functionality and interface.

All of these give you the ease and comfort of using a basic starter kit, but with all the freedom and possibilities of a more advanced device.

Portability

As far as dual 18650 devices are concerned, the Vaporesso Switcher is fairly compact. While it does have a bit of bulk, making pocket storage a tad cumbersome, the weighting of the device feels great and not heavy at all, so storing it in your bag or purse doesn’t add much extra weight.

The dual 18650 batteries guarantee that the mod will give you at least a full days worth of vaping, regardless of how much you chain vape. The OMNI board also does a great job of doing balanced charging via the micro USB port, allowing for safer recharging sessions even when an external charger isn’t available (although I will always recommend using an external charger as the safest option)Vaporesso Switcher battery slot

Overall Experience

The Vaporesso Switcher is one of the most compelling kits to be made available yet. The sheer customizability of the device which extends to both the aesthetics and functionality of the kit is unparalleled.
The NRG tank does a great job of giving you all the possible flavor and vapor that you’d need from a vape, and all of these features at half the price of DNA mods which boast roughly the same functionality. Now It’s Available :

Smoant Battlestar 200w TC Box Mod Review

Smoant Battlestar 200w TC Box Mod Review

Smoant has been releasing quite a few new products lately, and while the Battlestar isn’t the newest, it is one of the more popular devices they offer. The Battlestar offers the user tons of features while sporting an compact and ergonomic design. Dual 18650 box mods are incredibly popular since they’re right in the middle when it comes to battery life, power and portability. With that being said, how does this dual 18650 device compare to the rest? We’ll see in this review!

First Impressions

The packaging of the Smoant Battlestar 200w TC Box Mod is great, on the front it shows an image of the device itself alongside the name and on the back it has some minor information about the features offered with the Battlestar. This type of packaging is a bit different than what we’ve seen from other companies in the vape industry, and I do like the overall design of it. For presentation, it definitely gets a thumbs up.

Once you slide open the box, you’re met with the Smoant Battlestar. It’s well protected, so you’ll have no worries with this box mod during transit. Included with this device you do receive a USB charging cable, user manual, QA card and a battery warning card. It’s a pro for sure that they included a battery warning card in the box. I think more companies should do this since some vapers may be quite new and not really understand battery safety.

The color I received the the Black and Yellow. There are a ton of different colors options available for this box mod such as full black, rainbow, camo, golden, bronze blue, classic bronze, copper colored and much more. This is surely a pro as it’s always a good thing to have multiple color options when buying a new vape device.

Smoant Battlestar Review

When first holding the device in my hands, I immediately thought it was comfortable to hold. I do like this design a lot as it’s not only comfortable in the hands, it’s compact which makes it great for traveling with. In addition, there’s a good amount of battery venting along the battery door and on the bottom.

The construction of the Battlestar is great. It is primarily constructed of zinc alloy, so it’s not only durable, but pretty lightweight as well. The micro USB port is on the front of the device, which is another pro. I do hate it when companies put the USB port on the bottom, as this is just an inconvenience in my opinion. I do want to mention that I saw no where stating whether it is firmware upgradeable or not. I don’t think this device is firmware upgradeable, so I’ll list this one as a con for sure.

The battery door is held on tightly with magnets. Even though this is the case, getting the battery door off is pretty easy. Simply hold the two sides of the battery door and you can pull it off with some effort. However, there is a little bit of play when moving it side to side, which may be a con to some. This wasn’t really a con to me.

Overall, my first impressions of the Smoant Battlestar 200w TC Box Mod was great! This device is compact and lightweight, so I was excited to use it with me as my daily dual 18650 mod.

Usage

As mentioned previously, the Smoant Battlestar has a compact, lightweight and ergonomic design. With that being said, it’s been a pleasure to use this device as my primary dual 18650 box mod. It fits great in the pocket, and I’m sure you’ll have no issues when putting this in a purse or book bag. This is definitely one of the more ergonomic devices I’ve come across in a while, and I’m sure we’ll see more devices with this type of design.

All of the buttons on the Battlestar are nice and clickly. In addition, they do have great feedback when you press each button, which is great. The display screen is also pretty bright and easy to see both inside and outside of the house, even in sunlight. The display screen does show you the wattage, battery life (battery bar), applied voltage, resistance and which mode you’re currently in.

Navigating through the menu system is incredibly easy as well with the Battlestar. Five click will turn the device on and off. Three clicks will enter the menu, and you can scroll through the options using the wattage up and down buttons. The modes include temperature control for Ni200, Ti, SS, NC, TCR and VW mode. You can adjust the wattage in temperature control mode by pressing the wattage up and firing button. In addition, you can fire this device all the way up to 200w in TC mode, which is a huge pro in my opinion.

Smoant Battlestar Review

If you press all of the buttons (fire button, wattage up and down buttons) you will lock the device. However, you are only locking the wattage or temperature adjustments, you can still fire the device. In wattage mode, if you press the fire and wattage up buttons you will invert the screen color. Also, something worth mentioning is that every time you screw on a new atomizer it will ask you if it’s a new coil or same coil, simply use the wattage up or down button and press the fire button to select the desired option.

Atomizers up to 25mm in diameter will sit flush with no overhang, which is definitely a pro. In addition, all of the atomizers I’ve attached to this device worked with no issues whatsoever, even RDAs with longer 510 pins.

Overall, using this device has been great. It’s pocket friendly and very easy to use, so no matter if you’re a beginner or advanced user, you’ll have no issues when it comes to using the Smoant Battlestar.

Focus On www.ave40.com For More Vape Kits.

Performance

As mentioned earlier in this review, the Smoant Battlestar does require 2 high drain 18650 batteries, and has a maximum wattage output of 200w. 200w is more than enough to power pretty much any coil build you throw at this box mod. Now, I don’t have the necessary equipment to really test if this device can actually hit a full 200w, but I can certainly say it feels like it delivers the power you set it at. I did vape this device at 170w, and it felt like it delivered this amount of power. Do keep in mind if you are vaping at this high of a wattage to use an 18650 battery with a higher CDR.

I typically vape between 50w and 100w, and the performance there was stellar. There is zero delay when hitting the fire button, which is a huge pro. I was actually impressed by how responsive the fire button is with this device. The battery life is pretty good as well, and it’s pretty much the same as you would get with any other dual 18650 device. If you do vape at higher wattages, expect the battery life to suffer a bit. However, when vaping at lower wattages such as 50w, I can easily get through an entire work day without needing to change the batteries.

The temperature control of this device is solid as well. I only tested this device in Stainless Steel temperature control as I rarely ever vape Ni200 or Ti wire. I wouldn’t say this device is as great in regards to performance in TC mode as a DNA device, but it’s definitely up there with some of the other box mods from Joyetech, Wismec, and Smok and others. I did use this box mod primarily in wattage mode though as I do prefer standard wattage mode most of the time when vaping.

Smoant Battlestar Review

Something worth mentioning is that the resistance is not as accurate as say a DNA or YiHi device either, but it’s not off by much to be honest. For example, a coil build that normally reads as a 0.19 resistance will read slightly lower at 0.18 ohm. It’s not that big of a deal for me personally, but it’s something worth mentioning regardless.

All in all, the performance of the Smoant Battlestar Box Mod was excellent! I had no major complaints when it came to the performance of this device.

Pros

  • Solid build quality
  • Ergonomic & Compact Design
  • Instantaneous Firing
  • TCR Mode
  • User Friendly
  • Tons of Color Options Available
  • Bright Display Screen

Cons

  • Little bit of play with the battery door
  • Resistance reading is slightly off
  • No firmware updates

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Smoant Battlestar TC Box Mod has easily made its way to one of my favorite dual 18650 devices and it’ll stay in rotation for some time. This box mod is incredibly ergonomic, and pocket friendly. Not to mention, it’s easy to use and the display screen is nice and bright.

Even though there were some cons to be mentioned, none of them would deter me from recommending this box mod. With how it performs, it really doesn’t need a firmware update in my opinion. I know for some vapers this may be a deal breaker, which is completely understandable.

If you’re looking for a solid performing dual 18650 device with a lot of features that’s easy to use and is pretty compact, then the Smoant Battlestar 200w TC Box Mod is definitely something we highly recommend!

We hope you find this review helpful in finding the right box mod to fit all of your vaping needs! Feel free to leave any questions or comments down below! Thanks for reading!
